William F. Castle Sr

Averill Park- William F. Castle Sr., 79, a longtime resident of Rte. 66, died unexpectedly on Friday, January 25, 2019 at the Van Rensselaer Manor, where he had resided since April 2016. Bill was born in Troy and was the son of the late Francis J. and Dorothy Barth Castle and the loving devoted husband of the late Marie Ruotolo Castle. Bill resided most of his life in Averill Park and Wynantskill. He was a graduate of the Averill Park High School. Bill had served in the United States Navy and Reserves. Bill worked most of his life as a Mason with the Bricklayers Union and had worked on the “Egg” in Albany when that was built. After retiring from the union, Bill worked in the maintenance department at RPI. Bill had volunteered for different organizations in the community. He enjoyed hunting and fishing especially with his friends at Dowie Dale Campground in Mexico, NY.
Bill was the brother of the late Jerry Castle and Sandra Teal.
Survivors include his children Robin (Francis) McKay of Orange City, FL., Colleen (Thomas) Phibbs of Brunswick and William (April) Castle Jr. of Averill Park, sister Judy Gorman of Latham, Grandchildren Thomas (Lauren) and Ryan Phibbs, Nicholas Kivlen and DeLana Castle.
Bill’s family wishes to thank the staff at the Van Rensselaer Manor for the great care Bill received while residing there.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call 4-7 p.m. on Monday, January 28 at the Perry-Komdat Funeral Chapel 2691 NY 43 at Glass Lake Averill Park.
A Funeral service will be at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday, January 29 at the Funeral Chapel with burial to follow at St. Henry’s Cemetery Averill Park.
