Timothy Smead, 61, of Taylors, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2022, following a prolonged battle with cancer, which he fiercely fought for over a decade, against all odds. Tim was born on January 5, 1961, in Amsterdam, New York, one of the ten children of Rosemary Becker Smead and the late Kenneth W. Smead, Jr. He worked in plant maintenance for the State University of New York at Albany. Tim married his wife, Diane (Fylak) Smead, in 1988 and shared a beautiful life for 34 years, first living in Taborton, New York and then, in retirement, moving to South Carolina to be close to his daughter, Lauren (Smead) Conners and grandson, Liam Conners.
Tim could build or fix anything. When family or friends needed a skilled hand for a project, he was the first one they called. He never hesitated to lend his time and expertise. He was also a superb athlete - the only Smead child to beat his father at golf. Tim was happiest out on the water and spent most of his adult life living on Big Bowman Pond, where he loved to fish. He delighted many a child by taking them fishing and teaching them to clean and cook their catch.
Tim was never a big talker, but he was an avid reader and a deep thinker. He was a man of faith and believed that he would one day be beyond pain in eternal joy with the Lord. His family hopes that he’s also now beyond the pain of being a lifelong and loyal New York Giants fan, which he was – through both the good years and the very bad years!
Most of all, Tim was passionate about his family. He deeply loved his wife and cherished his daughter from the moment he laid eyes on her. He outright adored his grandson. Tim’s favorite moments were with Liam, whether proudly watching him play sports, competing in fishing derbies, or spending quiet time together watching football on television.
In addition to his wife, daughter and grandson, Tim is survived by his mother, Rosemary, and his siblings Kenneth Smead III (Candace), Bryan, Ronald (Jayne), Gregory (Deborah), Kevin (Michelle), Laurie Hill (Marcus), Melanie Thompson (Kenneth), Julia Bielawski (John) and Jennifer Cox (Adam).
