Poestenkill- Shirley J. (Morelli) Walters, 89, a longtime resident of Columbia Hill Road, East Poestenkill, died peacefully, Sunday, January 5, 2025 at the Schuyler Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Clifton Park with her loving family by her side following a short illness.
Born April 6, 1935 in Mechanicville, Shirley was the daughter of the late Cesar and Myrtle (nee White) Morelli and, for over 57 years, the devoted wife and best friend of Philip “Flip” H. Walters, who predeceased her May 7, 2013. Shirley and Philip were married May 5, 1956.
In addition to being a homemaker who enjoyed raising her family and caring for her home, Shirley worked for many years at the former Gabriel’s Toy Factory in Albia and, more recently, as a production worker at the Loc-Tite facility (former Visilox Systems) in Poestenkill, until her retirement in 1995.
Shirley was extraordinarily generous with family and friends. She was an old-fashioned cook who relied on her memory for her best recipes and loved cooking for her family and friends. She was especially well known for making the most delicious macaroni and cheese dish. More recently she liked to watch NASCAR racing, and solve word search and crossword puzzles to keep her mind sharp and active.
Shirley is survived by her daughters, Cathy Walters of Berlin, Debra Harris of East Poestenkill, Diane Bissell of Round Lake and Michelle Lutz of Loudonville, her brother and sister-in-law, Ike and Jean Morelli, her sister and brother-in-law, Alice (Morelli) and Fred Marble, 7 grandchildren, Stephanie Piel, Jason Walters, Kyle Bissell, Brandon Harris, OliviaLutz, Amelia Lutz and Keira Lutz, 5 great-grandchildren, Pam Bellamy, Dan Piel, Miranda Smith, Bianca Cormier, and Dominic Walters, 5 great-great-grandchildren, Faylinn Bellamy, Nicholas Bellamy, Levi Cormier, June Smith, and Sage Galavagni-Piel,and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her beloved “Flip” and her parents, she was predeceased by a son, Philip H. Walters Jr., and siblings, Julia Morelli, Rosemary Williams, Katherine Film, Chester Morelli, Henry Morelli, Donald Morelli, and Norman Morelli.
A funeral service for Shirley will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at noon at the Perry-Komdat Funeral Chapel, 2691 NY 43 at Glass Lake, in Averill Park. Burial will follow in 56 Road-Woodside Cemetery in East Poestenkill. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00-11:45 a.m. prior to the service.
