Goode, VA- Rudolph “Rudy” Jahn Sr. of Hunting Lane, a longtime resident of Hoags Corners, passed away on Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at Lynchburg General Hospital after a period of failing health. Rudy was born in Brooklyn, NY the son of the late Erhart and Mildred Simerick Jahn. As an infant his family moved to the Hoags Corners area where he remained until 2012 when he relocated to Virginia. Rudy was a carpenter and worked out of the Carpenters & Jointers Union in Albany. In 1956 he joined the Hoags Corners Fire Dept. and Ambulance and between both organizations he had 100 years of combined service. Rudy served as Chief of the Fire Dept. from 1971-1986. He implemented the Hoags Corners Fire District #1, Purchased the first custom pumper and made changes in the firefighting gear for better protection of the firefighters and started the pager system to alert firefighters of a call. Rudy also worked privately for people doing carpentry work, was a code enforcement officer for the Town of Nassau and truly enjoyed his life in Virginia.
Rudy was the husband of the late Grace Carlucci Jahn.
Survivors include his wife Barbara J. Amsler Jahn of Goode, VA, his son Rudolph (Gretchen) Jahn Jr. of Schodack, daughters, Debra Jahn of East Greenbush, Christina Jahn of Averill Park, Denise (Brenda) Jahn of Castleton, Barbara’s children, Theresa (Karel) Bemis of Forest, VA, and Scott (Colleen) Ruck of Watervliet, his brothers George (Louise) Jahn of No. Greenbush and Florida, Robert (Tina) Jahn and Edward (Gail) Jahn and his sister Doris J (Richard) Benson all of Hoags Corners, 7 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to call 12 noon – 3:30 pm on Sunday December 17, 2023 at the Perry-Komdat Funeral Chapel 2691 NY 43 at Glass Lake, Averill Park followed by a funeral service at 3:30 pm.
Interment St. Henrys Cemetery, Averill Park.
