Richard A. Rusin

Averill Park- Richard A. Rusin, 83, of Eastern Union Turnpike, Crooked Lake, passed away on Monday, July 10, 2023 at the Samaritan Hospital in Troy. Richard had been stricken ill on Saturday. Born and raised in Yonkers, Richard was the son of the late John and Emilia Skura Rusin and husband of the late Jacquelyn Jazzo Rusin. Richard taught at Yonkers High School for a short time the served in the Army from 1960-1962. He received his college education at various colleges and received his Masters from Cortland College. Richard was a professor of Economics and Sociology at HVCC for over 30 years retiring 20 years ago. In the early 1970’s Richard served as Supervisor for the Town of East Greenbush and then settled in Averill Park at Crooked Lake. Richard was a member of the Hendrick Hudson Fish & Game Club, the Crooked Lake Association and was a former member of the Averill Park Fire Dept.

Survivors include his daughter Army Col. Theresa (Denny Brown) Rusin of Saranac Lake, Jacquelyn’s daughters Elizabeth (James) Calkins and Colleen McGrath both of Pittsfield, MA, his grandchildren Jack and Molly Trainor and Coral and Alina Brown.

Richard was the brother of the late Eugene (Judith) Rusin and the former husband of the late Camilla Baniak Rusin Lundberg.

Relatives and friends are invited to a Committal Service with Military Honors 10 a.m. on Friday, July 21, 2023 at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery 200 Duell Road Schuylerville, NY. Please meet at the entrance at 9:45.

A celebration of Richard’s life will continue at 1 pm at the Averill Park Fire House Eastern Union Tpke. Averill Park. All are welcome.
