North Greenbush- Rev. Lawrence S. Smith, 82, 0f Mallard Way, Wynantskill died on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at Diamond Hill Nursing Facility after an extended illness. Born in North Tonawanda, New York, Larry was the son of the late Elmer and Betty Grassman Smith and the husband of Lucille Harper Smith. Larry was a graduate of the Buffalo Bible Institute and the Elohim Baptist Bible Institute in Castile, NY. Larry was ordained by his father in law at the 2nd Baptist Church in Cambridge, OH. The Smith family moved to the area in 1973 and settled in North Greenbush in the late 1980’s. Rev. Smith served at the Tuscarora Baptist Church for a number of years, the West Stephentown Baptist Church into the late 1970’s and the Flatbrook Baptist Church in Canaan for a number of years. After retiring from the ministry Larry worked for the Averill Park School District where he was a Bus Driver and retired in 2000 from a custodian position. Larry and Lucille were longtime members of the Sand Lake Baptist Church and most recently the Bible Baptist Church in West Sand Lake. Larry enjoyed listening to radio ministry.
Survivors in addition to his wife include his sons Loren (Dolores) Smith of No. Greenbush, Nathan Smith of Watervliet and Daniel (Christina) Smith of Stephentown, grandfather of David (Sara) Smith, Andrew Smith and Jeffery Smith and soon to be great grandfather of Michael Loren Smith. Larry was the brother of the late Olive Boldt, Harold and Benjamin Smith.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 29 at the West Stephentown Baptist Church 1672 NY 43 West Stephentown followed by a funeral service at 7 p.m.
Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, East Greenbush.
