Stephentown - Raymond W. Scheilding, 89, of Rte. 43 died on Thursday March 6, 2014 at the Albany Medical Center Hospital after a long illness. Born in Brunswick, Raymond was the son of the late William and Anna Middlestead Scheilding and husband of Virginia Bowen Scheilding. Ray grew up in the Coeymans-Selkirk area and had resided at Snyder’s Lake for 20 years before moving to Stephentown in 1984. He had started his working career with the railroad in Selkirk and then entered the Marine Corp during WW ll. He served in the Pacific and had participated in action Hoi and the Mariana Islands. He was awarded a Purple Heart for injuries he received while serving. Ray returned and continued to work for the railroad then worked for Manning Paper in Green Island and LaFarge Cement Plant in Selkirk before working for the Town of North Greenbush Highway Dept. where he retired from in 1984. Raymond was a member of the Sullivan-Jones VFW Post in Poestenkill and the former Geerholt Rehm Post in North Greenbush. He was a member of the West Stephentown Baptist Church and was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting and was a member of the Adirondack Woodsman Club. Raymond was the father of the late Steven and Raymond W. Scheilding II. Survivors in addition to his wife include his children Michael (Debbie) Angley, JoAnne Pryor and Christopher (Jennifer Shoemaker) Scheilding, his brother Kenneth (Alice) Scheilding and his grandchildren Joshua Angley, Michelle Smith, Danielle Hiser, Ben, Jonathan and Zachery Angley, Christopher Scheilding, Justin and Joel Pryor. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Tuesday 1 p.m. at the Perry-Komdat Funeral Chapel 2691 NY 43 at Glass Lake, Averill Park.
