Nassau- MaryJo DeFilippis, 80, of Nassau Averill Park Road died on Friday, May 3, 2023 at her residence after a long illness.
Born in Glens Falls, MaryJo was the daughter of the late Horace M. and Lucinda Madelyn Ormsby Baker, step daughter of the late Mary Jane Miller Baker and the beloved wife of the late Francis K. DeFilippis. MaryJo grew up in Bolton Landing, NY and was educated in the Bolton Central School District. She was a graduate of the Nursing Program at HVCC in 1976. MaryJo started her nursing career at the VA in Albany, went on to Samaritan Hospital and retired in 2018 from Albany Memorial Hospital.
Along with her husband MaryJo spent many years volunteering with the Sand Lake Ambulance and was the organization’s first female Chief. MaryJo enjoyed camping, sewing and gardening in her spare time.
MaryJo was the sister of the late David and Horace Ormsby Baker.
Survivors include her son Michael (Stacey) Walczak of Nassau, her grandson Nathan (Jennifer) Walczak of Averill Park, her sisters Katherine Baker, Megan Baker and Julie Baker of Bolton Landing and her brother Arthur Baker of Bolton Landing.MaryJo was waiting to meet her soon to be great granddaughter Heather Bailey Walczak.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call 4-6:30 on Friday, May 10, 2024 at the Perry-Komdat Funeral Chapel 2691 NY 43 at Glass Lake Averill Park followed by a Memorial Service at 6:30.
The family suggest donations be made to the Hoag Corners Ambulance PO Box 90 East Nassau, NY 12062.
