Averill Park - Leo B. Chamberlain, 90, a longtime resident of Pikes Pond, died suddenly on Saturday May 25, 2024 at Van Rensselaer Manor.
Born in Troy, Leo was the son of the late Michael and Elva (Campbell) Chamberlain and the devoted husband of Helen (Karins) Chamberlain. Leo was raised in Wynantskill, and was a proud graduate of both LaSalle High School and Paul Smith’s College. Leo proudly served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1957. He married the love of his life, Helen, and moved to their home on Pikes Pond in 1970. He was a longtime Forest Ranger for the New York State Department of Conservation, participating in numerous searches for lost hikers and often putting on his Smokey the Bear suit for community events. Leo, a communicant of St. Henry’s Church in Averill Park, was a life member of the Averill Park- Sand Lake Fire Department, served with the Hoags Corners Ambulance and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Leo was a devoted father to his son, the late Christopher L. Chamberlain Sr., and grandfather to Christopher (Alysha) Chamberlain and the late Matthew Chamberlain. His great-granddaughter Violet was his greatest joy. Leo also held his daughter, Mary (Gregg) Chamberlain in his heart. Leo was a loving brother to his big sister, Patricia Bashford, and little brother, Michael (Mary) Chamberlain. Additional survivors include many nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly. Leo was predeceased by his sisters and beloved brothers-in-law, Connie and Roland LeMaire; Ellen and George Allen and Roy Bashford.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am on Friday, May 31, 2024 at St. Henry’s Church. 39 Old Rte. 66, Averill Park and may also call between 5:00 -7:00 pm on Thursday May 30, 2024 at the Perry-Komdat Funeral Chapel,2691 NY 43, at Glass Lake Averill Park. Burial with Honors will be at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery at the family’s convenience.
