Averill Park- Lawrence C. Heffner, 85, a longtime resident of Schreiner Way, died on Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at the Van Rensselaer Manor after a long illness. Born in Troy, Larry was the son of the late Cecil and Helen Coonradt Heffner and the beloved husband of Patricia Quell Heffner. Larry was a lifelong resident of Averill Park and was an Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict. After serving in the military, Larry started a lifelong career as a truck driver. He worked for a time for companies in the Sand Lake/Averill Park area before taking a job with the Agway Corp. He was a driver for Agway for 39 years when he retired in 1994. Larry enjoyed camping and the Adirondacks. Starting in 2000 Larry held a maintenance job at the Golden Beach Camp Ground at Racquet Lake, NY. Every summer Larry and Pat would spend their time at Racquet Lake until Larry became ill. Larry was a member of the Racquet Lake Fish & Game Club, a former member of the Averill Park Fish and Game Club and was a communicant of St. Henry’s Church in Averill Park.
Survivors in addition to his wife include his devoted children Kim Marie Bursese of Broadalbin, Michael L. (Mary) Heffner of No. Greenbush and John D. (Michele) Heffner of Chamberburg, PA, his brother Clyde (Libby) Heffner of Averill Park. Larry was the grandfather of 9 grandchildren including the late Savannah Bursese and 3 great grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, February 3 at St. Henrys Church 39 Old Rte. 66 Averill Park.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 4 at St. Henrys Church. Burial with Army Honors will follow at St. Henry’s Cemetery.
