Poestenkill- Kristopher L. Nichols, 42, of Taft Way, passed away on Sunday, January 6, 2013 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston after a long illness. Born in Troy, Kris was the beloved son of Lawrence Nichols of Poestenkill and Rebecca Teal Lobdell of Averill Park and the devoted husband of Shelley Dushane Nichols. Kris was a lifelong resident of Poestenkill and was a 1988 graduate of the Averill Park High School. He had participated in various sports teams while in school. Kris had worked for KMR Construction for a number of years and more recently worked for Rifenburg Construction where he was a Superintendent. Kris had worked at Rifenburg for over 10 years. Kris was a communicant of St. Henry’s Church in Averill Park, was a member of the Mark 20 Sportsmen’s Club and Local Union 106. He was a Little League coach, an avid Baseball and Football fan and enjoyed snowmobiling. Kris was a true perfectionist at everything he did and enjoyed the time he spent with his children and participating in their activities. Survivors in addition to his wife and parents include his beloved children Morgan and Jack Nichols of Poestenkill, his brothers Kevin (Stephanie) Nichols of Averill Park and Kurt (Jenifer) Nichols of Poestenkill, his sister Kimberly (Tim) Murdick of West Sand Lake, his grandmother Florence "Toady" Smeland of Poestenkill. Kris was uncle of Dominic and Tori Donato, Tim and Sean Murdick, Zachary and Anna Nichols. Kris’s family wishes to thank the staffs at Memorial Sloan- Kettering, Massachusetts General Hospital and Yale Cancer Center for the care they gave to Kris for the past 3 years.
Funeral, Saturday 10 a.m. at St. Henry’s Church, 39 Old Rte. 66 Averill Park, N.Y., where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered. Relatives and Friends are invited and may also call at the CHURCH on Friday 4-7pm. Interment to follow in Brookside Cemetery, Poestenkill. Kris’s family suggests donations in memory of Kristopher L.
