Joyce Evelyn Rubrecht

August 7, 1944 — December 18, 2022

New Lebanon, New York

New Lebanon- Joyce Evelyn Rubrecht, 78, passed from this life on Sunday, December 18, 2022 at the Albany Medical Center after suffering a catastrophic stroke in her home earlier in the week.

Born in Jamaica, Queens, Joyce was the daughter of the late Raymond and Martha Bayer Boll, the much-loved sister of the late Carolyn Parisi, and the beloved wife of Roger Rubrecht.

Joyce was raised in Bolton Landing, NY and was a 1962 graduate of Bolton Central School.  She attended secretarial school in Manhattan and thereafter worked in the City for West Virginia Pulp and Paper.

Joyce and Roger met in the city on a blind date in New York in 1966 and were married ten months later in Bolton Landing, the start of a fifty-six-year romance. Joyce’s honeymoon trip started the next day and consisted of a two-day road trip to Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, where Roger started his three-year career in the Army, including a year in Vietnam.  A 24-year career in the FBI followed, with duty assignments in Washington DC, Jacksonville, Florida, New Orleans and Lake Charles La., and finally in Albany. Along the way she raised two good kids, many litters of her beloved collies, or “fur people” as she called them, and was referred to as “Saint Joyce” in the family for having handled the hard work of ten separate moves with patience, humor, grace and love. She made lifelong friends everywhere she went and, especially during eighteen years in Louisiana, where she became an exceptional Cajun cook. Her etouffee, sauce picante, jambalaya, gumbos and red beans were legendary, as was her French bread. All these were shared with friends and family as she took care to nourish those around her with food and love. The family moved back home to Averill Park in 1987, where Joyce became the Secretary at the St. Henry’s Church.  As always, she created many lasting connections and strong friendships in the community. The family moved to New Lebanon in 2017.

Joyce is survived by her devoted husband Roger, sister Gayle Bamber with nephews Chris and Geoffrey of Fallbrook, California, son, Michael (Jennifer) Rubrecht, grandchildren Zachary, Connor, Brittany (Josue), Bradley (Alida), Autumn (Devon) and great grandchildren Eliza Jane, Noah, and Carson, all of Lake Charles La, and daughter Karen (Phillip) Genever-Watling, grandsons Charlie, Jackson and Gregory, all of Austin, Texas. They are joined by cousins and friends, especially the Besemer cousins of East Chatham who Joyce kept close to her heart.

A Memorial Mass will be held 11 am on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at St. Henry’s Church, 39 Old Route 66, Averill Park, NY.

The family requests that donations in Joyce’s name be made to Tunnels to Tower (www.T2T.org.), 2361 Hylan Blvd, Staten Island, NY 10306
