Stephentown-With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of John Samuel MacRoberts of Giles Road on July 6, 2024 at Albany Medical Center Hospital. John led a rich and full life, touching many with his kindness and wisdom. He will be remembered for his unwavering strength, compassionate heart, and love for his family.
John was born on September 25th, 1943, in Troy, NY son of the late Elliot MacRoberts and Martha LaFountain Coppelino. John grew up in Albia and at the age of 21, joined the Army in 1964 and bravely served in the Vietnam War until 1966, a testament to his courage and dedication. John was married on February 18th, 1967, to his soulmate, Gertrude Cook MacRoberts. Soon after, the couple welcomed two beautiful children, Edward and Dennice.
John worked at General Electric in Pittsfield, MA, and was later transferred to Waterford, NY. After 34 years in the business, John retired and became a part-time Bus Driver for Averill Park, NY, School District until he was ready to retire fully in 2017.
John is survived by his wife, Gertrude; his son, Edward (Buff)MacRoberts; daughter, Dennice James Sherman. He also has five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Besides spending time with his family and friends, John had a passion for hunting and fishing. John was a member of the Nassau Rod & Gun Club, Wynantskill American Legion, and a lifetime member of the VFW in Poestenkill, NY. John was a charismatic, headstrong individual with a drive to protect those around him. His honesty, integrity, and transparency are a few of the many qualities John presented himself with.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call 1-4 pm on Sunday, July 14, 2024 at the Perry-Komdat Funeral Chapel 2691 NY 43 at Glass Lake, Averill Park.
A Funeral Service will be held 10 am on Monday July 15, 2024 at the Funeral Chapel followed by a burial service with military honors at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
In honor of John’s love of animal’s donations in his memory may be made to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society 3 Oakland Ave. Menands, NY 12207.
