West Sand Lake- John E. “Jeb” Bond, 77, of West Sand Lake passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2025 surrounded by family at the Samaritan Hospital after a short illness.
Born in Syracuse, Jeb was the son of the late Edwin Britton Bond and Pearl Emma Kolb Bond Howland and the beloved husband of the late Charlotte “Charlie” Niekamp Bond. Jeb was raised in Saugerties, NY where he was a multi-sport athlete in school. He attended Cortland State before serving in the Army from September 1969 to June 1971. He was honorably discharged with a rank of Sergeant. Returning home Jeb graduated from New Paltz College with a bachelor’s degree. He started his career with New York State and moved to the area in 1978 first residing in Taborton, Sand Lake then to West Sand Lake. At the time of his retirement, he was a Senior Hearing Representative at the NYS Insurance Fund in Albany. He had served on the Sand Lake Town Zoning Board of Appeals and was an avid golfer, playing at area courses over the years with his golfing buddies. Jeb was a great husband a model father and a loyal friend to many.
Survivors include his son Joshua E. Bond of Rensselaer, his sister Cheryl (James) Bond Barker of New Hampshire and his longtime companion and friend Jan Adalian of East Greenbush.
Jeb was the father of the late Shannon C. Joy and brother of the late Michael Bond.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call 1-3:45 pm on Sunday, January 26, 2025, followed by a time of remembrance at 3:45 for Jeb and Charlie, at the Perry-Komdat Funeral Chapel 2691 NY 43 at Glass Lake Averill Park
“Jeb” and “Charlie” will be inurned at 11 am on Monday January 27 at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
