Berlin- Jo Ann Kellar, 76, of Park Ave. passed away on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington after an extended illness. Born in Berlin and a lifelong resident, Jo Ann was the daughter of Byron and Mildred Lackey Michaels and the wife of Roy John Kellar since July 10, 1963 when they eloped to Newport, NH. Jo Ann was educated in the Berlin Schools and was a 1963 graduate of the Berlin High School and had a longtime career with the Berlin School District starting as the district mail carrier and later drove school bus working there from 1973-1991. After retiring she returned as a substitute dispatcher. From 1991-2003 Jo Ann worked at the Rensselaer County Bureau of Public Safety and was an Election Inspector for the Town for many years until 2019. Jo Ann volunteered her time as an EMT for the Berlin Ambulance from 1983-2002. She was a longtime member of the Berlin Methodist Church and had been a Sunday School Teacher, the Junior Choir Director was a member of the Bible Study Group and the Choir. She was a past member of the Campfire Girls and a former Boy Scout Den Leader. For years she loved the time spent camping at Wakonda Family Campground. While being involved Jo Ann was a housewife, mother, grandmother and babysitter first and enjoyed those times spent with her family. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, spending nights in her camper even sleeping in her back yard on those warm summer days. Jo Ann was the mother of the late Stephen J. Kellar sister of the late Vivian Millard and Estella Schonhaut. Survivors in addition to her husband include her daughter Tammy (William) Osterhout of Berlin and Sherri (Jim) Kellar-Willis of Stephentown, daughter in law Barbara Kellar of Berlin, her grandchildren William, Jason, Charles, Jessica, Katlyn, Jonathan, Casey, Dylan, Tyler, Gage, Tiffany and Courtney and 12 great grandchildren, her sister Helen Noyes of Valley Falls and her brother Clarence Michaels of Malta. Relatives and friends are invited and may call 10-12 noon on Wednesday June 2, 2021 at the Perry-Komdat Funeral Chapel 2691 NY 43 at Glass Lake Averill Park followed by a service at 12 noon. Burial will follow at the Berlin Community Cemetery. The most recent COVID guidance will be followed at the Funeral Chapel.
