Poestenkill- Henry M. Bermas Sr., 78, of Bermas Rd. Averill Park passed into eternal life on Friday, November 11, 2016 at the Albany Medical Center Hospital surrounded by his family after a short illness. Born in the Bronx, Henry was the son of the late Morris and Anna Kulcsar Bermas and the beloved husband of Suzanne Casabonne Bermas. Henry was 2 years of age when the family moved to the area where Henry was educated and a 1956 graduate of the Averill Park High School. After high school Henry served in the US Navy from 1956 – 1958. Henry had also received his Associate Degree in Automotive from HVCC. Henry had a 33-year career with the Bendix Corp where he had been a Lab Technician. Following Bendix’s move from the area Henry worked for the Eddy where he was a driver after which he worked for the NYS Dept of Corrections in Menands where he was a Calculations Clerk, a job he held until his illness.
Henry was a longtime member of the West Stephentown Baptist Church and a member of the choir, he was a past member of the Poestenkill Zoning Board of Appeals, was a founding member of the Averill Park Booster Club and was a past member of the Tamarac Twirlers Square Dancing Club. Henry enjoyed Golfing, woodworking and working at his sawmill.
Survivors in addition to his wife include his children Henry M. (the late Tami) Bermas of Averill Park, Julie (Michael) DiNuzzo of Troy, Diane Waldron of Poestenkill, Angela Visco of Durham, NC, Suzanne (Douglas) Stoddard of Tacoma, WA and Susan (Sal) Elder of Wynantskill, his brother Donald Bermas of Poestenkill along with 16 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, November 15, 3-6 p.m.  at the West Steophenton Baptist Church 1672 NY 43 West Stephentown, NY followed by a Funeral Service 6 p.m.
Interment with military honors on Wednesday 11 a.m. at the Gerald B.H. Solomon National Cemetery Schuylerville, NY
Due to floral restrictions at the cemetery the family suggests donations in memory of Henry M. Bermas Sr. be made to the West Stephentown Baptist Church 1672 NY 43 Stephentown NY 12168.
