Poestenkill-Gerhard Schlueter, 91, of Deer Creek Road, passed away on March 5, 2021 at Van Rensselaer Manor, Troy, N.Y., after a long illness.
Born in Kellinghusen, Germany, Gerhard was the only child of the late Otto and Tina Schlueter. He married his late beloved wife Erna Fahse in 1953 and then shortly after immigrated to the USA where he began working as a tool and die maker / machinist for Simmons Fastener. Erna and his daughter followed him 1 year later and settled in Sand Lake, N.Y. They moved to Watervliet in 1955 and then to Poestenkill in 1965. They resided on Flint Drive for 32 years before moving to Deer Creek Road. After retiring from Southco, the former Simmons Fastener, he and Erna spent their time visiting family and friends in Germany and the U.S. He took up a new hobby of flying and flew several times a month with his friend, Jim Rogers. He always brought his camera with him and took pictures of all of his adventures. Gerhard was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Poestenkill.
Gerhard was the beloved Dad of Gabriele (Frank) Nardozzi of Fairport, N.Y. and Gerhard (Emer) Schlueter Jr. of Poestenkill, Opa of Mark (Deborah) Nardozzi, Kristen (Jason) Pilcher, Andrew (Tressa) Schlueter, Lyndsey (Andrew Lashua) Schlueter, and Christopher Schlueter and Ur-Opa of Maxwell and Natalia Nardozzi, Kaitlynne Pilcher, and Ayden and Neil Lashua.
Relatives and friends may attend his memorial service at 10:00AM on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at the Evangelical Lutheran Church, 772 Round Top Road (NY-351), Poestenkill, N.Y. 12140.
An interment service will follow at the Hillside Cemetery, Poestenkill.
In accordance with most recent mandates masks, social distancing and occupancy levels will be observed at the church and cemetery.
If desired, donations may be made to Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Ave., Menands, N.Y. 12204 in Gerhard Schlueter’s name.
