Troy- Gerald A. Shoemaker, 78, a former resident of Madison St. died on Saturday, January 2, 2016, at the Evergreen Commons Nursing Home, after a long illness. Born in Troy, Gerald was the son of the late Frank H. and Bernice Blanchet Shoemaker Sr. Gerald was raised in the West Sand Lake area and attended Averill Park Schools. He resided in Troy for over 50 years and at Evergreen Commons since 2014. Gerald retired in 2000 with over 30 years of service from the Times Union Newspaper, where he was a Mailer. He enjoyed bowling and playing cards, was a Giants and Mets Fan, and enjoyed fishing at the Tomhannock Reservoir. Gerald was the longtime companion of the late Matilda "Sandy" Thomas and brother of the late Lawrence Shoemaker. Survivors include his children, Gerald A. (Lisa) Shoemaker of Brunswick, Wayne M. (Lori) Shoemaker of Troy, James E. (Carey) Shoemaker of East Amherst, NY, Elena Shoemaker of Troy, Sally (Eugene) Thomas of Cairo, Richard Thomas of Ballston Spa and Catherine (Kirk) Thomas of Troy. Also surviving are his brothers and sisters, Judith Parks of Wynantskill, Frank (Doris) Shoemaker Jr. of No. Greenbush, Lorraine Delair of Pleasantdale, Harold (Son-Hui) Shoemaker of Casselberry, FL, Sharon (Clifford) Shepard of Diamond Bar, CA, Timothy (Maureen) Shoemaker of Mann, SC and Ronald (Brenda) Shoemaker of No. Greenbush. He was also the Grandfather of Randall, Joshua, Krista, Kyle and Benjamin Shoemaker and great grandfather of Jace Shoemaker.
