Troy- Evelyn L. Hoffman, 94, a longtime resident of Rte. 43 in Averill Park died on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at the Eddy Memorial Geriatric Center in Troy after a long illness. Born in Sand Lake, Evy was the daughter of the late Carl and Bessie Teal Dobert and the beloved wife of 64 years to the late Marshall E. Hoffman. Evy grew up in Sand Lake and was a graduate of the Averill Park Schools. Marshall and Evy lived with Marshall’s parents in Taborton for a year before purchasing their home on Rte. 43. Evy had enjoyed participating in the Eddy Daybreak program before becoming a resident in 2013. She had at one time done seamstress work at the Ford Mills in Waterford and later worked as a cafeteria cashier for the Averill Park School District. She was a lifelong active member of the Zion’s United Church of Christ in Taborton where she was a Sunday School Teacher, was a member of the Adult Fellowship, Women’s Guild, ran the cradle roll and had ran the “Fancy” Booth at the annual summer picnic for many years, worked the turkey dinners and arranged the Alter flowers with Marshall. Evy was a longtime member of the Sand Lake Seniors and was a member and Chaplan of the Christian Women’s Club of Rensselaer County. Evy enjoyed watching baseball, bowling gardening at her home, cutting coupons, giving gifts and always looked forward to raking the leaves in the fall. For many years Evy and Marshall would roll newspapers at home.
Evelyn was the sister of the late Hilda Biittig, Ada Mae Ernest, George, Marshall, Donald C., Chester and Ralph Dobert.
Survivors include her devoted son and daughter in law Hal and Diane Hoffman of Averill Park, her sisters Jane McClellan of Averill Park and June Price of Arizona, her grandson Kristopher (Christy) Hoffman of Selkirk and 5 greatgrandchildren Kristopher Jr., Dominic, Jesse, Anna and Joseph.
Funeral Service 10 a.m. Thursday, April 5 at the Zion’s United Church of Christ 741 Taborton Road with burial to follow in the Sand Lake Union Cemetery.
Relatives and Friends are invited and may also call Wednesday, 4-7 p.m. at the Perry-Komdat Funeral Chapel 2691 NY 43 at Glass Lake Averill Park.
