Sand Lake- Elsie M. Hoffman Ernest, 100, a lifelong resident of  Taborton Roadpassed away peacefully at her home, on the early morning of Thursday, December 29, 2016.  Born on January 28, 1916, she was the daughter of the late William and Cora Effland Hoffman and the wife of the late Clayton E. Ernest..  She was a lifelong member of the Zion United Church of Christ.  In her younger years, Elsie worked as a seamstress at Faith Mills in Burden Lake and Aetna Mills of Troy.  She married Clayton in 1938 and together they built a house next door to her parents, where they raised their three children, Bob, Bill and Peggy.  Elsie was extremely devoted to her family and delighted in being a homemaker for many years.  Later in life when her children were grown, Elsie & Clayton would enjoysquare dancing in the winter, and camping in the summer.  Elsie was an avid quilter, and made special quilts for all of her grandchildren.  She liked to bowl and always appreciated a good baseball game.  She also loved to bake and was notorious for her savory pie crust.  Apple pie and blueberry kuga were among her specialties. In her eighties, Elsie enjoyed travelling and attending events with the senior citizens group. Most recently she loved spending time with her family & friends and she adored special hugs from great-grandson Kellan. She will be missed.
Elsie was the mother of the late Peggy Roder (grandmother of the late Paul Roder, and great-grandmother of the late Christopher Ernest and sister of the late Dorothy Gundrum, Esther Momrow, Lawrence Hoffman, Alma Legenbauer and Marshall Hoffman and mother in law of the late Bobi Ernest.
Survivors include her loving and dedicated sons, Robert C.Ernest and William C. (Marsha) Ernest both of Sand Lake; 6 grandchildren Michael (Julie) Ernest, Matthew (Tracy) Ernest, James (Wendy) Roder, Lori (Frank) Gazeley, David Ernest and Kristi (Raymond) McDuff; 4 great-grandchildren Kelsey, Brittany, Hannah and Kellan; mother in law of Ernie Roder and also survived by several nieces and nephews. 
Funeral Tuesday, 10 a.m  January 3, 2017 at the Zion’s United Church of Christ  Taborton Road Sand Lake
Relatives and friends are invited and may also call at the Perry-Komdat Funeral Chapel 2691 NY 43 at Glass Lake Averill Park 4-7 p.m. on Monday, January 2, 2017.
Interment Taborton Cemetery following the service.
