Averill Park-It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend David M. McNiff on December 28, 2024, at the age of 75.

Born on September 3, 1949, David was the beloved son of the late Colonel William H. McNiff and Rosemary Morris McNiff. He was predeceased by his brother, William H. McNiff, and his loving son, David M. McNiff Jr.

David is survived by his loyal and devoted wife, Barbara V. McNiff, his loving daughter, Deborah McNiff Bracken, his cherished granddaughter, Windy Bracken, his son-in-law, Edward Bracken, and his sister, Christina McNiff Mancinelli. He also leaves behind his beloved nieces: Michelle McNiff Grant, Marsha McNiff Potter, Danielle Mancinelli-Ziter, and Erica Mancinelli.

David also leaves behind his beloved canine companion, EmmaJeanne (EJ) - a loyal and loving Shih Tzu, she brought endless joy and laughter to David and Barbara with her love and fun “demands”.

David was an amazing, caring, and committed father to his children, David Jr. and Deborah, and happily extended that love to his son-in-law, Edward Bracken.

David thrived on spending beach time, laughing with, and doting on his precious granddaughter Windy (a name he originally desired for his daughter - but was vetoed). He was thrilled when he found out he was going to have a granddaughter - and elated upon learning of her name. He immensely enjoyed being her grandfather.

He exemplified the true meaning of family and fatherhood, always putting his loved ones first and creating an environment filled with love, guidance, and support.

Following in his father’s footsteps, David served in the US Army Reserves. He enlisted in 1968 and served for six-years before his honorable discharge in 1974.

From 1971 through his retirement in 2003, David enjoyed a highly successful 32-year career with the Freihofer Baking Company. A company where he devoted much of his professional life. He began his service as a Route Salesman, advanced to Route Builder, and then earned many subsequent promotions that included Sales Supervisor, and then Branch Manager in 1983. The advancements continued in 1987 to Regional Manager then Director of Sales for their Northern Region. In 2003, David retired from Freihofer’s leaving a lasting legacy through his decades of leadership.

He was also an active and valued member of the Hendrick Hudson Fish & Game Club, where he served as Financial Secretary and dedicated much of his time to keeping records, fostering membership, and improving the clubhouse and its grounds. He was also responsible for their skeet and trap initiatives.

David was the hardest worker one could ever meet, tirelessly dedicating himself to his family, his career, his home, and his many personal projects. He took great pride in his homestead, always ensuring it was beautifully maintained.

Above all, David’s devotion to his family was unwavering, and his bond with his beloved wife, Barbara, stood as the heart of his life. Together, they shared 56 years of love, respect, and joy.

As a true Parrothead, David was an avid Jimmy Buffett fan and embraced the laid-back lifestyle and music that brought him peace and happiness. He loved to travel to the Florida Keys and spending summers in Rodanthe, North Carolina, where he created decades of treasured memories with his family by the beach.

David will be remembered for his warmth, generosity, dedication, intelligence, and the happiness he brought to all who knew him.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call 4-6:30 on Thursday, January 2, 2025 at the Perry-Komdat Funeral Chapel 2691 NY 43 at Glass Lake, Averill Park followed by a service at 6:30.

David spent a lifetime of that was also made full by quality time spent with extended family, and friends that became family to him. There are too many to list - but includes “cousins” Susie and Tim Quinn.

Our family deeply appreciates all prayers, thoughts, and support during this difficult time.
